What recourse do you have if you purchase a coupon from Groupon or LivingSocial only to run out of time before it expires? Used to be that you had no choice but the consider the money wasted. According to the Today, it was only a matter of time before someone saw a business opportunity in that sinking feeling. Turns out that the feeling must have been pretty common because there are at least five different sites that allow you to resell your coupons:
CoupRecoup
Katherine, one of our founders, came up with the idea in March 2010 when she got stuck with a hotel Groupon that she couldnt use (because her parents cancelled a trip to visit her!). She tried to sell it on Craigslist, but got no response. She told her Facebook friends about it, but no one bit. Finally, her friend posted it to a companys internal message board, where she got some low-ball offers and finally sold it to someone out of desperation for half of what she paid for the Groupon. She knew there had to a better way, and that she couldnt be the only one with this problem. Two months later, CoupRecoup was born.
DealsGoRound
Launched in March 2010 in Chicago, DealsGoRound was the first secondary marketplace in the world to allow consumers to re-sell and buy past daily deals from companies like Groupon, LivingSocial, BuyWithMe and the like. The company currently operates in 128 cities across the United States and Canada.
