Consumers looking for credit cards for Christmas shopping ‘should act soon’

Consumers could consider using their existing credit card for festive spending and then transferring their balance over to a 0% balance transfer card when the statement arrives, spokesperson for Money.co.uk Andrew Hagger suggested.

However, consumers looking at this option should apply for a new card now as there is a time delay between sending off the application and receiving the card, Mr Hagger noted.

Consumers could also consider applying for a 0% purchases card, he added. However, this can take a couple of weeks to process and so in order to have the card in time for Christmas shopping, applications should be sent in soon, the spokesperson noted.

Almost 27 million people in Britain will be using their debit or credit card or other payment methods to shop online this Christmas, new research has revealed.

The data from Paypal also found that the thing that matters to the most online shoppers is saving money or finding a bargain, with 62 per cent claiming this is their main priority.
